01: SCCA works in specific post-war conditions, where the lack of a system of culture and arts, art history studies, education in new media, contemporary arts magazines and information on new developments in art must be taken into account. In a country going through the difficult process of economic and social reconstruction and transition, the principle tasks and missions of the SCCA-Sarajevo are to keep contemporary non-commercial art alive (by giving logistic, material and professional support) and to involve it competitively in the international arts scene.

03:a After three years of work, the results are already greater than expected. We have already influenced the local the arts scene to a great degree: by distributing donations for the realization of exhibitions and catalogues, by providing artists with professional services, such the writing and translation of biographies and international correspondence, and by processing and collecting photographs, slides and other documentation. SCCA-Sarajevo has become an irreplaceable factor in the international exchange in the area of visual and new media.

03:b Professional standards and artistic life have been raised to a higher level and the artist scene has been altered with the ideas of the youngest "war" generation of artists. The lack of a gallery space was turned into an advantage: SCCA-Sarajevo acted as a centre d'art mobile. Most projects, such as the annual exhibition, were realized in open spaces of the city. New spaces were created for the gathering of artists and a new audience who had not entered galleries and museums before.

03:c With new production and the accompanying educational programs, SCCA-Sarajevo became an active player and at the same time a corrective in local cultural life. In 1998, SCCA-Sarajevo created a technical base for starting the multimedia laboratory pro.ba, in which 20 artists' works were produced on the basis of public competitions held by the center. These works were presented in the Fourth Sarajevo Film Festival in the framework of the program "Made in Bosnia" as well as in many international festivals, museums and galleries.
